Florkum 30
Florkum 30 is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial veterinary product primarily used to treat bacterial infections in livestock. Its active ingredient, Florfenicol, belongs to the amphenicol class of antibiotics and is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Active Ingredient
Florfenicol (30% concentration or 300 mg/mL in injectable formulations):
A synthetic derivative of chloramphenicol.
It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, exerting a bacteriostatic effect, and sometimes showing bactericidal activity at higher concentrations.
Indications
Florkum 30 is used to treat bacterial infections in various species, especially where florfenicol-sensitive bacteria are present.
Cattle:
Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) caused by Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Histophilus somni.
Foot Rot caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus.
Swine:
Swine Respiratory Disease (SRD) caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida.
Secondary infections from gastrointestinal pathogens.
Sheep and Goats:
Bacterial respiratory and gastrointestinal infections.
Poultry:
Respiratory infections caused by Escherichia coli and other bacterial pathogens.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage of Florkum 30 varies depending on the species, weight, and severity of infection. Always follow veterinary guidance.
Cattle:
Dose: 20 mg/kg body weight (1 mL per 15 kg).
Route: Intramuscular (IM) or Subcutaneous (SC).
Frequency: Administer once daily for 2 days. Alternatively, a single dose of 40 mg/kg (2 mL/15 kg) can be given for extended effect.
Swine:
Dose: 15 mg/kg body weight (1 mL per 20 kg).
Route: Intramuscular (IM).
Frequency: Administer once daily for 3 days.
Sheep and Goats:
Dose: 20 mg/kg body weight (1 mL per 15 kg).
Route: IM.
Frequency: Daily for 2–3 days.
Poultry:
Florfenicol may also be available in oral formulations for poultry, administered in drinking water. Dosage and frequency depend on the product and species. florkum 30
