4.5. Special precautions for use

i) Special precautions for use in animals

Administration of corticosteroids in late gestation may result in premature parturition or abortion in ruminants.
Except for indications of ketosis and induction of parturition, the function of corticosteroids is to ameliorate rather than cure. Therefore, diagnosis and treatment of the underlying disease is advisable. When used to treat shock, intravenous fluids should be given to maintain circulation; acid-base balance should be performed.

(ii) Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals

In case of accidental self-injection, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet to the physician.
People with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.
Pregnant women should not handle this veterinary medicinal product.

iii) Other precautions

None.

4.6. Adverse reactions (frequency and severity)

With prolonged use, corticosteroids such as dexamethasone may cause iatrogenic hypercorticism, polyuropolydipsia (PUPD), immunosuppression, bulimia, and redistribution of body fat.
The use of corticosteroids in lactating cattle and goats may result in a temporary decrease in milk production.
Induction of parturition with corticosteroids may be associated with reduced viability of offspring and an increased incidence of retained placenta. betamethasone injection uses

4.7. Use during pregnancy, lactation or laying

Studies in laboratory animals have shown embryotoxic effects.
The use of corticosteroids in pregnant animals is not recommended, except in ruminants to induce parturition during the last third of gestation. Buy cortamethasone injection, cortamethasone france

4.8. Drug interactions and other forms of interaction

Since corticosteroids may reduce the immune response to vaccination, dexamethasone should not be administered concomitantly with vaccines.
Concomitant administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration. betamethasone price

Induction of parturition:
Cattle: 20 mg (20 mL)

4.10. Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if necessary

High doses of corticosteroids can cause drowsiness and lethargy in horses. cortamethasone for sale, betamethasone injection uses

5. Pharmacological properties

Pharmacotherapeutic group: corticosteroids for systemic use, glucocorticoid.
ATC-vet code: QH02AB02. Buy cortamethasone injection

5.1. Pharmacodynamic properties

Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid with weak mineralocorticoid activity. Dexamethasone has ten to twenty times the anti-inflammatory activity of prednisolone at equivalent molar doses. Corticosteroids can decrease the immune response. Indeed, they inhibit capillary dilation, leukocyte migration and phagocytosis. Glucocorticoids have an effect on metabolism by increasing gluconeogenesis. Dexamethasone induces parturition in ruminants if the fetus is alive.

5.2. Pharmacokinetic characteristics

After intramuscular administration of the product, dexamethasone is rapidly absorbed, giving a rapid and short-lasting response. The Tmax in cattle, goats, horses, pigs, dogs and cats is reached within 30 minutes after intramuscular administration. The T½ ( half-life) varies between 5 and 20 hours depending on the species. The bioavailability after intramuscular administration is approximately 100%. cortamethasone france
